20 December 2021

Queensland Health has added more locations to its contact tracing list with Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr John Gerrard urging all Queenslanders to check it daily.

Among the latest venues for “casual contact” is the Elements Music Festival held at Landcruiser Mountain Park at 669 Diaper Road, Kingaham.

The periods of interest are Friday at midnight (December 17) to 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon (December 19).

Those who attended the festival during the relevant times should immediately travel by private transport directly to their home or accommodation and self-quarantine, and get tested as soon as possible.

They must continue to self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

They should also continue to watch for symptoms and if they become symptomatic, get tested and isolated until they test negative.

Dr Gerrard on Monday announced 59 new cases of COVID in Queensland; with 43 Omicron cases now confirmed in the state.

Health officials fear that a graduation ceremony for Griffith University students last Monday could turn into an Omicron cluster, with 15 cases already linked to the event.

Like the Music Festival, above, the event has been listed as an ‘casual contact’ event, so anyone who attended is encouraged to take a COVID test and self-isolate until such time. that she obtains a negative result.

There are currently 197 active COVID cases in the state, and although 66 people are hospitalized, no one is in intensive care.

Since December 13, four more cases have been added to the statistics related to the Toowoomba Regional Council area.

Two cases were acquired locally from a known source and two are still under investigation.

Apple makes it easy to transfer data from Android to iPhone with its Move to iOS app for Android devices, available on the Google Play Store. If you only want to move your contacts and not your other data, you can use your Android phone’s SIM card. Since you can store your address book data on an Android SIM card, you can back up your contacts there and move them to your iPhone (SIM cards need to be the same size on both devices, of course). All iPhones starting with iPhone 5 use the Nano SIM.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Touch Import SIM contacts.
  • Once the import is complete, your contacts will be available in the Contacts app preinstalled on your iPhone.

Use Google to transfer contacts

For this to work, you need a Google account. You’ve probably created one for your Android device. To transfer your contacts, follow these steps:

  • On your Android device, back up your contacts to Google. The backup should take place automatically if you are using your Google account on your device. You can also touch Settings> Account, the Google account you want to sync with, and then turn on Sync contacts.
  • Once done, add your Google account to your iPhone.
  • Once your account is set up, you may be able to turn on contact sync immediately. Otherwise, go to Settings> Passwords & Accounts and tap on the Gmail account.
  • Move the Contacts slider to the On (green) position and the contacts you added to your Google account will sync with iPhone.

Google Home is imposing surprising new restrictions on the calls that users can make by asking Google Assistant. Only numbers saved in Google Contacts will be reachable by asking the voice assistant from December.

Google home phone

The Google Home feed tab recently started broadcasting what it called a “significant call change,” explaining the change. While Nest Hub smart displays and other Google Assistant-enabled devices can call someone by reciting their phone number, the new method requires either using an existing contact or signing in and saving one. new to someone on this list.

“As of December 2021, phone calls supported by Google from your speakers, smart screens and smart clocks can only be made to numbers from your Google contacts. You can ask Google Assistant to make phone calls to your friends, family, and businesses on your speaker, smart display, or smart clock. You can’t receive incoming phone calls, ”Google explained in an updated support article. “After this change, if you try to call a number that is not saved in Google Contacts, you will be given the option to add it. If you add the number, Google Assistant will make the call. add, Google Assistant will cancel the call.

Call on Google

Google Assistant only started allowing inbound calls last year, starting with Telstra subscribers in Australia. The feature later spread to the United States, including a setting for smart home devices to ring only when the user is actually at home. The voice-activated speed dial feature for family contacts served a similar purpose. It’s a little different from how Amazon Alexa started linking to AT&T phone numbers so that Echo smart speakers can make or receive calls.

Google did not say why the numbers should be saved. This can be in response to complaints about unwanted calls or wrong numbers. Dropping ad hoc phone calls seems odd, especially if someone wants to call a business number they don’t need to register. It also flies in the face of Google’s tendency to keep adding and expanding functionality for its smart home devices. Google may also have simply decided that it was not worth the extra processing power due to a small group of users, but it will certainly add friction to Google Assistant’s phone calls at home under certain circumstances.

By the end of the month, a nasty surprise will lurk in some phone calls as New Hampshire ends 74 years of contact with people in the state without using area code 603.

This article first appeared in the Concord Monitor on October 2.

“People need to be aware instead of being caught off guard,” said Mark Doyle, director of the emergency services and communications division of the New Hampshire Department of Security. Otherwise, he said, they will hear that dreaded recording: “Your call cannot be terminated as dialed. “

As you may already know, thanks to a warning from your telephone company on October 28, the state will begin “dialing 10 digits,” in which the area code 603 must be used in front of all numbers. While it won’t be mandatory until next July, there’s no easy way to know which calls need the area code and which don’t.

So, for all intents and purposes, October 24 will be the first time since 1947, when the area codes were created, that seven digits will no longer suffice.

The change is happening due to the rollout of “988” as the new national suicide helpline in July 2022. Like other three-digit emergency numbers, this will allow people to call for help. easier.

Before the number can take effect, however, something must be done on the existing phone numbers that start with 988; otherwise, the switched telephone network will be confused. In New Hampshire this includes hundreds of Portsmouth phone numbers, hence the need to start every call with 603.

Ten-digit dialing is also happening in other states that have a single area code, including Vermont, where the city of Troy has 988 as its central. However, this does not come to Maine because that state never used 988 as a prefix of a number. Massachusetts, with multiple area codes, already has 10-digit numbering in most places, which won’t change.

The area code requirement will be an annoyance for those of us who forget about it when calling or didn’t get into the “contacts” list on our phone and made sure the 603 proceeds. to all New Hampshire issues. This is much more of a problem for companies or organizations with equipment that makes calls based on a database of numbers.

Verizon puts it this way in its announcement: “Any services, automatic dialing equipment or other types of equipment programmed to make calls to local 7-digit numbers will need to be reprogrammed to make calls to 10-digit numbers, including including the area code. Here are some examples: personal security systems and medical surveillance devices, PBXs, fax machines, Internet access numbers, fire or burglar alarm systems, other security systems or barriers, speed dialers, cell phone contact lists or wireless, call forwarding settings, voicemail services and other similar features.

If not, it could even be dangerous. The 911 system, for example, depends on a database that links this hotline to local emergency services.

“We had to go in and rebuild the database that houses these phone numbers, we’ve already gone ahead and handled that,” Doyle said.

The massive database for the statewide emergency alert system does not have this problem. It only connects to cell phones which, because they use a different network, usually have area codes required.

Phone numbers date back to 1879 in Lowell, Massachusetts, when a measles outbreak wiped out the city’s manual switchboard staff, forcing the creation of a system that could be used by less-trained operators.

Depending on location, phone numbers had three, four, or five digits until the 1930s when the seven-digit system was created, consisting of a three-digit prefix associated with a central followed by four digits associated with a specific line. In the 1950s, the first part of the prefix was associated with letters on the dial, so that a Concord number such as 225-1234 could be remembered as Capital-5-1234. This practice ended in the 1970s.

Area codes were created in 1947 to allow interstate calls without the assistance of an operator. New Hampshire’s 603 was one of the original 86 area codes. At the turn of the millennium, there were concerns that the state would soon need a second area code due to growth, but the improvement in the way phone numbers are distributed – combined with changes in distribution cell phone numbers – means the state will be fully covered by 603 for at least another decade.

You can also use contacts to store additional information about the people you care about, such as phone numbers, birthdays, and other personal information. And anyone you add to your Contacts is immediately available on all your devices you use Gmail on, including your computer, phone, and tablet.

Here’s an overview of all the most important ways to use contacts in Gmail, including how to add, edit, and delete them.

1. Open Gmail on your Mac or PC in a web browser.

2. Click it Google apps (it’s shaped like a grid) at the top right, next to your account icon.

3. Click on Contacts.

4. Contacts will now launch and you can use it to add, search, edit, and manage your contacts.

The first time you search for the People app, you might have to scroll down to find it. By default, the Contacts app is stored in the seventh row. If you use Contacts frequently, you might want to click and drag it closer to the top of the list.

If you receive an email from someone you want to add as a contact, Gmail allows you to do so with just a few clicks.

1. Open Gmail on your Mac or PC in a web browser and click the email address of the recipient you want to add to your contact list.

It only takes a few moments to delete contacts from Gmail, as long as you know where to look. To get started, open the Contacts app on your desktop by following the steps explained earlier in this article, or you can go directly to contacts.google.com in your browser. There are two ways to delete contacts:

  • If you only want to delete one contact, hover the mouse pointer over the contact, and then click the three dot icon on the far right of the screen. In the drop-down menu, click To delete then confirm the deletion by clicking on To delete again.
  • If you want to delete multiple contacts at once, hover your cursor over the contact, then click the check box on the left side of the screen. Check all the contacts you want to delete. Then click on the three dot icon at the top of the screen and choose To delete. Confirm the deletion by clicking To delete again.

The technique to delete contacts on Android device is similar. In the People app, press and hold the contacts you want to delete until you see a check mark indicating that they are selected, and then tap the Trash can icon at the top of the screen.

If you have an iPhone, you need to delete contacts in a browser.

The contact list of the 12-year-old boy, who succumbed to the Nipah virus early Sunday morning in Kozhikode, Kerala, expands to 188 people and counts, a senior district health official confirmed.

Of them, 20 are considered to have had high-risk primary contact with the deceased and two of them, both health workers, started showing symptoms, Kozhikode district doctor V Jayasree said. The majority of the people on the contact list are health workers.

High-risk contacts will be kept for observation in a newly opened isolation room at Kozhikode Medical College, the district-level government hospital that treated patients with the Nipah virus during an outbreak in 2018.

“As we get more names (from primary and secondary contacts), they will be added to the list,” she said. The list includes at least five relatives of the deceased.

The 12-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released by the state health department, was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode on September 1 with encephalitis and myocarditis. As the symptoms were similar to those of Nipah virus, three sets of samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for confirmation. The samples came back positive late Saturday night, but the teenager was in critical condition. He died at 4:45 am Sunday. His body was buried according to WHO protocols earlier Sunday.

For health workers, the contact tracing exercise was difficult as the boy was admitted to three other hospitals, including Medical College Hospital, before being taken to a fourth hospital on September 1. The health service has promised to publish a detailed itinerary. card of the boy and his family between August 27 and September 1 so that those who potentially came in contact with them can enter quarantine and be kept under observation.

A three-kilometer radius around the deceased’s home in Chathamangalam panchayat has been declared a containment zone with all roads closed. Police officers were posted to monitor the neighborhood. A high alert was triggered in the districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kannur.

“The boy was not positive for Covid”

Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George, who held high-level meetings with health officials at the Kozhikode Collectorate, dismissed rumors that the deceased was also infected with Covid. “He was not positive for Covid at any time,” she said.

She said the department would investigate recent deaths in the teenager’s family and households in the area to verify links to the current outbreak.

A 24-hour helpline was activated to answer questions about the Nipah infection and to consolidate the efforts of the contact tracing exercise. The number is 0495-2382500, 2382800.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – It’s time to get ready and your devices as from Saturday 10-digit dialing will be required in area code 405.

The change comes as the Oklahoma City subway outgrows the 405 and prepares to add the 572.

For many, the 405 area code is a bit iconic like the downtown Oklahoma City skyline.

“There’s no question that area codes are a geographic reference, you just call it ‘The 405’,” said Matt Skinner, of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. “Now it will always be ‘The 405’. It will be just ‘405-572’.

Matt Skinner of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission said new 405 numbers are still available, but are expected to run out by next December.

That doesn’t mean the beloved 405 is going away, however.

“This means that there may not be enough to meet some demands, for example if you are a large company and you want sequential numbers in all of your offices, there may not be enough there aren’t enough 405 numbers to answer that, ”Skinner said.

As we prepare to add the 572 area code on May 24, anyone with a current 405 number will need to dial ten digits of a phone number to pass, starting this Saturday.

Skinner reminds Oklahoma residents to check their cell phones and make sure they have area codes included for their contact numbers.

“It’s a big deal,” he said. “I know personally, this morning I looked at my phone and thought, ‘Oh my gosh, there aren’t any 405 contacts that have the area code on them. “”

Some of the things you might forget are tablets and security systems that call your number; make sure they have this 405.

“You will just have to take inventory. Every device you have that uses a phone number, make sure it’s set, ”Skinner said.

If you get a new number after May 24, you will have the option of a 572 or 405 area code until all 405 numbers run out.

You will not be charged for long distance calls between the two area codes.

IPhone user looking for the same information? Tap or click here to learn how to delete your contacts in bulk from your iPhone.

Grab your Android phone, open your contacts, and choose everything. Now take a moment to scroll down. What does it look like? Cluttered? Outmoded? Stuffed with names and numbers that you don’t even recognize?

It’s easy for your Android address book to get a little out of hand, but there are steps you can take to clean it up. Over time, your contact list grows. You may end up with duplicate contacts or multiple entries for the same person. If you sync with Gmail or another email service, there might be tons of email addresses there as well.

There are several methods you can use to declutter your Android contacts. You can do it by hand, let Google help you clean up, or use an app to optimize your address book.

Delete a single contact

It’s simple to delete a single contact when you need it. Open the Contacts app and tap the contact. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner and select ‘Remove’. Confirm the deletion and you are done.

To delete multiple contacts, start on the main page of your Contacts app and press and hold the first contact you want to delete. A small box will appear checked next to the contact with empty boxes next to the others. Check the boxes of all the contacts you want to delete, tap the three dots and choose “Delete.”

While this method is convenient on occasion, you may not want to approach dozens or even hundreds of contacts this way. For more intensive decluttering, you can adjust your contact settings and get help from an app.

Discover 7 great ways to personalize your Android phone.

Desynchronize contacts for certain accounts

You might have more accounts than you think to feed your Android contacts. To see which accounts sync with (and potentially clutter up) your address book, open Contacts, tap the three dots in the corner, and select “Manage Accounts.”

Tap an account to see if it automatically syncs contacts. If it does and you want to end it, just turn off the sync setting. This will remove these people from your phone contacts, but not remove them from the original account.

Merge duplicate contacts

Merging duplicate contacts can be a bit tricky depending on which version of Android you’re using, so we’ll stick with the easiest way to do it. Head to your Google Contacts in a browser and tap or click the menu indicated by three bars in the upper left corner. Click “Duplicates” to see a list of contacts that may need to be merged. There is an option to reject or merge every possible duplicate.

When I tried this Google automatically generated a message telling me that it had found 32 duplicates. If you receive this notice, just click “View” and you can choose to reject suggestions or merge contacts on a case-by-case basis.

Check out the 6 nifty tips that Google users wish they knew sooner.

Try an app

Sometimes you need a little more oomph to help you manage your contacts. Here’s where a practical application can come in. Here’s what a Komando writer found.

Contacts optimizer: I tested Contacts optimizer, which promises to thoroughly clean your contacts, on my Moto G5 Plus. I started with 1654 contacts, a number that even I found surprising. I was able to immediately remove 27 duplicate entries which was satisfactory. This is as far as the app will go for free.

To access the app optimization wizard and a full set of tools, you need to upgrade to the pro version at $ 1.99. You can preview the app’s tools, such as the Contact Merge feature, to see if it’s worth the small upgrade price. The app can also help you find missing information, discover invalid contacts and mass delete contacts. If you really want to clean your contacts, then $ 1.99 is a small price to pay for this privilege.

Management of the Cloze relationship: While Contacts Optimizer is all about cleaning your contacts, Cloze wants to completely replace your old address book. The app acts as a personal assistant by learning which contacts are important to you. It tracks your interactions and updates your contacts based on changes to their electronic signatures. The basic app is free, but to unleash its most powerful features, you’ll need to look into a subscription that starts at $ 13.33 per month.

Anyone can use Cloze, but it is for professionals who want extra help in organizing and managing their important business contacts. It can even remind you to contact key people you haven’t been in contact with for a while. If you need to keep track of the customers and people in your corporate network, then Cloze is worth a visit.

Now that you’ve cleaned up your address book, you can enjoy a less cluttered experience on your Android phone. There is a sense of satisfaction in having put away a little corner of your tech life.

Instagram has become one of those rare social networking services that we don’t just use for sharing or posting photos or videos. The app or browser helps us support our daily communication, connectivity and creative needs. Now you must be asking yourself “how does Instagram meet our creative needs?” “

Instagram comes with many built-in filters and effects for our photos and videos. We can play around with our posts and stories by adding some trending GIFs, stickers or hashtags. And all of this not only helps us be creative, but also helps us find new people who share a similar interest as ours. For example, if you follow a particular hashtag on Instagram, you can see all the people who posted a photo with that hashtag and if you want, you can even follow them. These hashtags and stickers can also help you stay informed about the activities of your current followers. For example, Instagram recently launched a stay at home sticker, then that created a different story for everyone on your next list who used that sticker. You can easily view all the stories as they have all been put together; So you didn’t have to deal with the task of viewing each profile differently.

There are many ways that Instagram connects you with people; you can send them subscriber requests using mutual subscribers, you can search their username and if your Instagram is synced with Facebook, you can also follow the same people you met on Facebook on Instagram . Another way to keep in touch with your friends and colleagues is to link your Instagram account to your contacts list. You can find your friends on Instagram if they have registered their mobile numbers with their Instagram IDs. However, there are times when you no longer want your contacts to sync with your Instagram. In this case, you can stop syncing contacts and delete your contact list from Instagram.

Our smartphones are supposed to help us stay better organized while keeping all the information we need close at hand. But as we rely more and more on them, we have to face a new problem: the digital clutter. One of the biggest culprits is probably lurking in your iPhone contacts.

Your Contacts app can be crammed with names, phone numbers, and email addresses, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Many of these contacts need to be current and relevant, but you probably also have duplicates or multiple entries for the same person.

You probably also have outdated contacts that you no longer need.

It’s time to take some steps to clean up your address book. Trying to tackle it one by one can be absolutely maddening, but there are some useful apps and tips that make the process much less painful. Here’s how to do it.

Desynchronize contacts for certain accounts

You can have more accounts than you think by sharing information with your iPhone Contacts app. To see what’s going on, go to Settings and choose Passwords & Accounts. You will see a list of accounts, which may include Gmail or other email accounts.

If you want your iPhone to only contain your phone contacts, you can choose to turn off syncing contacts with your email accounts. Just tap on the account name and turn off the Contacts slider.

You will receive a warning that this will remove these contacts from your device. But don’t worry, they won’t be deleted from the account itself. This can be a quick way to reduce your contact list to a more manageable level.

Apple’s iOS 12 is here. Learn what you are doing now that you couldn’t do before.

Merge duplicate contacts

Duplicate entries are a common complaint when it comes to contacts. For a tidier address book, you want to merge them into one entry per person. For this task, see an application like Smart Fusion Pro, which you can download for free.

The app will check your contacts, check for duplicates and give you the option to merge these superfluous entries. Just make sure to back up your contacts when Smart Merge Pro gives you the opportunity.

Delete contacts manually

You can always delete contacts one by one as you go. Just tap the contact, tap Edit and scroll until you see the Delete Contact option. You will need to tap the small pop-up window again to confirm the deletion.

This is a simple option to clean up your address book here and subsequently you’ve merged duplicates and turned off unnecessary account syncs.

Here’s how to free up storage space on your iPhone.

Use an address book manager

One way to really take control of your contacts is to implement an address book management application. These apps handle most of the work of tracking, organizing, and updating your contacts.

Return circle

the Return circle app promises to bring a better address book to your iPhone. One of the most attractive features of the free app is its ability to find contact information hidden in email signatures and turn them into usable contacts. If you still find yourself arguing with a lot of physical business cards, you’ll appreciate its ability to scan cards using your iPhone’s camera and add them to your address book.

CircleBack is also constantly on the lookout for changes in your contacts, so that it can update them and keep the information up to date. A built-in contact deduplication feature also helps reduce contact clutter. Try this app if you want a free way to maintain a more advanced address book.

Cloze Relationship Management

the Cloze The app is more than just a means of jamming your contacts. It behaves like a personal assistant by learning which contacts are important to you. It tracks your interactions and can update contacts based on changes to their electronic signatures. The app can also remind you to get in touch with people you haven’t communicated with in a while.

The basic Cloze app is free, but to access its most powerful features you’ll need a subscription starting at $ 13.33 per month. The subscription price should tell you that this app is for professionals who need to follow clients and others in their business networks. If this sounds like you, you might find the cost worth it.

Whether you just clean up your existing iPhone contacts or choose to use a different app entirely, you’ll be rewarded with a less cluttered and easier to navigate address book.
